About HashCeratops
HashCeratops is a project created by members of buzzd.com to create better uniformity and standardization among local apps and services. HashCeratops is a publicly available, community-built project aimed at uniquely identifying places. It is a set of standards.
About fixing the problem:
More simply put - this is a place where anyone can add to a public directory of hashtags that are all tied to popular venues. Our goal is to create simple, clean, unique, and intelligible hashtags (identifiers) that should be at once easy to use, remember, and identify - for location based services and end users alike. Initially, this list will be limited to public, popular and web-savvy nightlife, dining, and entertainment venues in English speaking countries.
We consider the mashup of multiple content sources as inevitable, and the interaction of different communities requires being able to match a venue on two different systems. We just got sick of comparing venue ID #'s, matching phone numbers, and all the other challenges that come with it. This stuff shouldn't be so hard!
About our open standards:
We consider these hashtags to be a community resource, and intend that all hashtags in this database should be accessible by anyone. We will never hide or otherwise control our hashtags for financial reasons. We have created a consumer-facing web interface and an open API to make good on that promise. We hope that other local apps will use our hashtags freely and contribute new ones to the database regularly.
Buzzd.com has helped get HashCeratops off the ground, lending their tremendous local platform and APIs to help make the experience work, but we are open to whoever has something to contribute to the project. Please reach out to us!
